PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE YOU

Every year, around December, my entire family gets together and we discuss and share our goals with each other. We do this so that we can help motivate each other to achieve these goals. We also go through the goals we set out for the year that just passed. It is such an amazing bonding experience and really helps you work towards your goals. My Grumps came up with this tradition and each year I have been pushed to set out goals and achieve them. In 2018 I made my 2019 New Years Resolution. When it came to the end of 2019 and we were looking back on the year, I realized that I had achieved every single goal that I set out for myself! It was so fulfilling and so uplifting.

I had wanted to focus on myself, on building myself, mind, body and soul, and I did. 2019 was a year of self-reflection and growth. I brought myself out of some bad relationships, both friendships and intimate. I felt stronger than ever before having focused on this side of myself. I learnt how to filter my thoughts and feelings into what was true and what was not. I wanted to start working at an Events company, which I did and I flourished. I started in the sales department and after 3 months I got promoted to a Creative Designer. It was an amazing journey and working there taught me so much. I wanted to get my own place by August and I did. This was one of the biggest and best decisions I ever made. The level of maturity I reached learning to take care of myself and knowing that I was actually able to do it on my own was riveting.

I wanted to start eating healthier and I did. By the end of last year I was full vegan... being back with my parents has changed that, but I am working towards it again. My body can't handle meat and carbs and dairy... I wanted to get into yoga, which again I accomplished. I also wanted to focus on growing closer to God, so I got more involved in church and I went to Christian Counseling and I definitely felt my spiritual growth last year.

When creating our New Years Resolutions for 2020, Grumps sent us a diagram, well a pie chart to help balance out our lives. It is quite a lot to focus on, but little by little. The pie chart has 8 topics: Learn, Health, God/Faith/Purpose, Play, Work, Give back, Relationships, and Money. I honestly think I over-estimated myself when it comes to these topics. I think it's safer to put less in it and then whatever is extra that you accomplish is a bonus. If you feel that you can accomplish all the goals you set out then go for it! Here are the goals I set out for this year:

Learn: I want to learn how to play my ukulele which I have been playing more and more often during this quarantine period.

Health: Again my veganism is a goal for me, my body is hating me for going back to normal.

God/Faith/Purpose: I wanted to get more involved in church which is a little bit difficult at the moment. I also wanted to become a missionary, but God revealed to me that I am not in that season just yet. In all things I do, I constantly remind myself of the One I am doing it for.

Play: We must always make time for the things that bring us joy and peace, we cannot constantly be working. I wanted to save to travel somewhere in 2021 and I wanted to go venturing more this year. I did before this quarantine and I cannot wait to get back to doing it. I also decided that I wanted to start my YouTube channel this year, I decided to first start my blog as a starting point to figure out what my channel will be about and give me time to save up to get the stock I need to create beautiful videos.

Work: I wanted reach for the opportunity to work on the ships and I was so scared when applying and I got in! I was so excited, but then the Corona virus took its toll and postponed it. I believe that it happens for a reason and I will go when God decides its time.

Give Back: I wanted to get more involved in Charity work, but realized soon that it is not for everyone. Some people were made to be missionaries and some were made to do other things. I was called in this season to help the girls around me and to teach them.

Relationships: I think by now you all know that I have decided to be single for a year or more, who knows, so that I can focus on building my relationship with God and well myself. For the longest time I didn't respect myself and it's because I didn't love myself. I realized quite recently that I am loved by the One who created me and actually realizing that changed my perspective on how I treat myself. I also need some time to heal, because I have never given myself that time.

Money: I started investing a couple years ago and wanted to start investing more. Jesus teaches us that preparing for our future is the Godly thing to do and so preparing for my future is something I take seriously.

And well let's see how many I can accomplish this year.
