1 Peter 3:10 10 For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.

A topic that was requested was one on guarding your tongue, or watching your words. There are so many passages in scripture that remind us that our words are powerful. Our tongues have the power over life and death, over blessings and curses. It is so easy to say unforgivable and hurtful things when we are hurt or angry, we need to constantly practice the technique of watching what we say. As Thumper once said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Our tongues are one of the most difficult things to control and often leave us feeling regret. However, there is a solution, don't you worry. The Bible tells us that by setting our hearts and eyes on things above and only allowing our hearts to only be led by the Holy Spirit, we place control and power over our tongues in Him. We will start using our words to heal and encourage others.

Colossians 4:6 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Watching your words means no longer gossiping. It means no longer lying. It means being kind. It means speaking truth from a place of love, not so that you harm them. It means standing up for others. It means uplifting others and complimenting them. It means not talking about how ugly or fat you are, because let's face it, you really aren't. You are made in God's image, don't belittle Him like that.

Ephesians 4:29 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Proverbs 26:20 20 Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down.

Something we also need to watch out for what we say when talking about Christianity. Answering questions we don't necessarily know the answers to, especially if you haven't read your bible and can quote from it, can be so dangerous. We cannot carry on giving our opinion on the matter, we need to know facts. Therefor, in order to properly educate people and make disciples, we need to spend time in the word of God. We often use misconceptions of what the Bible says, without having read it.

I am going to be completely honest with you, before quarantine, I had never read my Bible. After doing the Bible 101 course through my church and then with my Godly Women's Bible study, I realized that we can sometimes be so wrong when speaking about what happened once upon a time. By reading the Bible you not only get to know the character of our amazing Creator, but you also have a better understanding as to what happened and why it happened. READ YOUR BIBLE. Just like the way you can't lose weight by only gyming, but you also need a healthy diet... well you need to read your Bible to be a good Christian my friend. I was like you once upon a time, so attack me if you must, but I am speaking from my own personal experience.

Can I just say that only once I started spending time in the word of God and learning about the Bible and what it says was I able to successfully guide someone to the feet of Jesus, because I was able to back everything I was saying up.

So watch the things you are filling your life with. Be careful with the music you are listening to and the movies and series you are watching... do these glorify the wrong things like sex, drugs, money and death, or is it filling your spirit with healthy and uplifting knowledge. Usually what you fill your spirit with is what will come out of your mouth. Do not be deceived, read your Bible, and get counsel before you try to answer others questions.
